A traditional quinta in the hills near Lagos, Western Algarve, Portugal
Only few guests chose to come in winter, but in terms of natural beauty, it is one of the prettiest time of the year. Not only the famous almond blossoms favor this period; many other plants too bloom in mid-winter. From roughly the middle of December till the end of February, the hillside behind the house is covered so densely in short-stemmed, wild blue iris that it is almost impossible not to tread on them. While not extremely rare, still these flowers are not found in many places in the region, and we have never seen them elsewhere in such incredible profusion.
