The Avenida dos Descobrimentos ('Boulevard of the Discoveries') is Lagos' main drag. Most of the town lies on the Western bank of the Bensafrim river, with only the marina and the cluster of new hotels and apartment lying to the other side. The Avenida invites leisurely strolling, towards the fortress at the far end, or towards one of the town's many restaurants and cafes. Some of the best places to end up are a little beyond the end of the boulevard itself, just beyond the fortress, where you can enjoy refreshments with great views across the Bay of Lagos.
