A traditional quinta in the hills near Lagos, Western Algarve, Portugal
A wide-angle view of the driveway running up the hill trough fields covered in oxalis, one of the world's prettiest pests. This is not summer, but mid winter: end of January judging by the flowering almond tree in the foreground.
The quinta sprawls over a low, elongated hill, stretching from bottom to top. For optimal peace and privacy, the house is set well away from the road, at the end of a 300m (330 yd) driveway. Nearest neighbours are hundreds of meters/yards away.
The hill is higher than it appears in this wide-angle picture (Nikon 20 mm). The top is 81 m (265 ft), the house stands at about 50 m (165 ft) above sea level. Views are wide and unobstructed.
